KUCHING, June 15: Dudong assemblyman Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has announced an allocation of RM100,000 to upgrade and repair Rumah (Rh) Simon Ason in Sibu.
In a TVS report, Tiong said the allocation, under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project, will be channelled as soon as a Tuai Rumah (longhouse chief) and village, security, and development committee (JKKK) has been appointed.
“At the moment, we are facing legal constraints as there is no valid JKKK, so official allocations cannot be channelled. I will discuss with the Sibu District Officer to expedite the appointment process,” he said.
He said this during the ‘Ngiling Bidai’ ceremony at the longhouse on Saturday (June 14).
In addition, Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, announced RM15,000 for the longhouse’s women’s bureau to carry out various activities and upgrade its facilities.
Tuai Rumah Simon Ason welcomed the announcement, describing it as a morale boost for the residents of the 33-door longhouse.
“This allocation is meaningful because it allows us to repair neglected parts of the longhouse, such as tiles, roofing, windows, and incomplete painting works,” he said.
In his speech, Tiong emphasised that unity and harmony within Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society are vital.
“The people must reject extremist ideologies and narrow racial or religious agendas propagated by certain parties,” he said. — DayakDaily
