KUCHING, March 15: The DTI Semuja 3 Cluster in Serian today has reported an additional 11 Covid-19 cases, bringing the total cases linked to the cluster to 99.

In a report today, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cluster which centred on the Semuja immigration detention depot (DTI) was first declared on March 10 with 19 individuals confirmed positive for Covid-19 including the index case.

Investigations found the index case (Case 270,274) of the cluster to be a 34-year-old non-Malaysian male detainee who tested positive for Covid-19 when screened before attending court on March 7.

On March 11, the cluster grew to include 48 cases, followed by 12 cases on March 12, nine cases on March 14 and 11 cases today (March 15).

Meanwhile, Sarawak also declared the end of the Lorong Siol Kandis Cluster in Kuching today after reporting no new cases within 28 days from the last case was reported.

The cluster, announced on Feb 24, was first detected among members of a family at Kampung Pinang Jawa in Kuching.

The index case (Case 254,574) was found through symptomatic screening at a private health facility on Feb 15.

Transmission was believed to have occurred through close contact with family members and school friends of positive cases.

Sarawak presently has five active clusters with the other four being Jalan Batu Kaya Cluster in Lubok Antu, Kuching Waterfront Cluster in Kuching, DTI Bekenu 2 Cluster in Subis and Lorong Cahaya Maju Cluster in Kuching. — DayakDaily
