Dato Sri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, March 15: Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing urges the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and relevant units to ensure the construction of the cycling route project at the Bintulu Civic Centre proceeds smoothly.

He hoped to see that the project which will be tendered soon, is built according to scale for cyclists.

“The cycling route will not only provide an avenue for cyclists but also promote the local sport.

“Therefore, I call for the construction of other relevant facilities to provide a more spacious, comfortable and safe recreational sports environment for the public as the main goal, and strive to make Bintulu a healthy, vibrant and livable city,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Tiong who is also the Dudong assemblyman took note that cycling is a popular recreational activity for the past few years but at the same time, cyclists on the road face risks.

“Thus, the construction of this bicycle lane can ensure the safety of those who are interested in cycling.

“In fact, the authorities will also consider the addition of recreational sports facilities needed for future improvements, depending on public response and participation,” he added.

Tiong also mentioned that there are other projects currently being implemented by BDA to support local sports and recreational activities, such as the upgrading of five futsal courts, namely Futsal PSK, Futsal Kemena Sutera, Futsal Assyakirin, Futsal Warisan Jepak and Futsal Taman Riadah Jepak as well as construction of a football field at Tanjung Kidurong.

The authorities, he said, are also collecting data to identify a suitable location to build a basketball court and upgrading existing basketball courts in stages.

He also said he would monitor the progress of excavation and dredging works carried out around the estuary near SJK (C) Chung Hua Bintulu in preparation for possible water level increases during the high tide season. — DayakDaily
