D’Sha Muayfit Tawau Club clinches victory at Muaythai championship, dominating with 10 gold medals

BINTULU, May 27: D’Sha Muayfit Tawau Club has emerged as the overall champion of the 2024 Sarawak Premier Cup Muaythai Championship, held at Naim Street Mall @ Paragon, Bintulu, last Saturday (May 25).

The team from Sabah excelled over the three-day tournament, securing 10 gold and two silver medals.

In second place was another club from Sabah, with nine gold and three silver medals, while Kenyalang Muaythai Club finished third with eight gold and six silver medals. Sting Muaythai Club took fourth place with seven gold, 11 silver, and two bronze medals.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), 11 athletes from various clubs received the Best Muaythai Athlete Award.

The recipients were Mohd Izzat Zulfakar (SS Fighter), Mohd Syafiq Ezuan Mohd Sofian (Sabah), Ade Mutia (KALBAR), Mohammad Nor Adzizi (Kenyalang Muaythai), Jonnah Barrac (PS Muaythai), Nurizman (Sting Muaythai), Mohd Hakim (MTK), Genesis (Sabah), Dazrey (Sabah), Eviyangka (Sabah) and Muhd Rafael Rayyan (Panthera Fight Team).

The prizegiving ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Sarawak Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, and Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim.

The competition featured eight events in the Semi-Professional and Professional categories, showcasing the skills of top muaythai athletes.

In key matches, A’mmarul (Bara Emas Muaythai Gym Malaysia) won the Profight category (71kg) against Majid Kambiz (Iran), and Umar Redwolves (Malaysian Redwolves) topped the Profight category (63kg) by defeating Ali Yaacob (Attitude Fight Team).

Other notable results included Nur Rania Rayhnna (Panthera Fight Team Johor) defeating Claudia Alvensia (KALBAR Indonesia) in the Semi Professional category (42-44 kg), Ritzi (Philippines) winning the Semi Professional category (42-44 kg) against Marcela Gosikir (Muaythai Sabah).

Nur Iskandar Daud (Muaythai Sabah) emerged as the winner of the Semi-Professional category (57-60kg) against Muhamad Nurizman Abdullah (Sting Muaythai Club).

Emonika (KALBAR Indonesia) defeated Intan Nirmala Mosidi (Muaythai Kenyalang) in the Semi-Professional category (44-47kg), while Kimi (Sting Muaythai Club) scored a win over Tuan Weira (Thaivsix Terengganu) in the Muay Sports A category (37 kg), and Monji Kambiz (Sudan) defeated Mohd Izzat Zulfakar Hazrid (SS Fighters Malaysia) in the Professional Superfight category (62kg).

The tournament organised by PMNS was supported by Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS).

Held from May 23 to 26, it featured over 200 participants including athletes from seven foreign countries, such as Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Iran, Sudan, and Morocco.

On May 24, a ‘Let’s Try Muaythai’ programme was conducted at SK Bintulu, involving 500 students.

Also present were Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Phang, MYSED permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick, SSC chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan and MTCP deputy permanent secretary Nasir Lariwoo. — DayakDaily
