KUCHING, Sept 21: Organisation for Addiction Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation (Qaptar) and Phoenix Foundation for Research & Development (PFRD) from Pakistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with one another.
Qaptar Malaysia president Cinding Biding held both Malaysia and Pakistan share common challenges and barriers in prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.
She pointed out that it is time that both Malaysia and Pakistan look into the evidence-based practices and interventions, which can be replicated in each other’s country.
“It will open doors for mutual benefit from experience sharing,” said Biding during the International Recovery Symposium 2023 which was held recently from Sept 18 to 21 at a local hotel here.
Speaking at the same occasion, Dr Noor ul Zaman Rafiq, chairperson of PFRD said that the primary objective of the MoU is to facilitate the exchange of academic and programme staff, mutual visits for research, training, and onsite practices, and the enhancement of the student experience.
The agreement will also promote collaborative research and development, training programmes, seminars, symposiums, and conferences.
The MOU signing will also pave way for the exchange of academic information and materials, promoting collaboration in fields of mutual interest of the organisations and both countries as well as promoting other academic co-operation and collaboration as mutually agreed.
The signing was witness by Qaptar secretary general George Young Si-Ricord Junior and Dr Muhammad Jawwad Shaujaat, assistant professor of the Department of Education of Punjab, Pakistan. — DayakDaily
