Driver rescued after car crash at Sungai Batu Bridge, Siburan

KUCHING, March 22: A driver was rescued after being trapped in his car following a self-accident at Sungai Batu Bridge, Kampung Tapah, early this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received the emergency call at 4.16am and dispatched a team from the Siburan Fire Station.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a Perodua Viva involved in the accident.

“Two passengers had already managed to exit the vehicle on their own before rescue personnel arrived, but the driver remained trapped in the driver’s seat,” the department said in a statement.

Firefighters used special rescue equipment to cut open the driver’s side door and successfully extricated the victim.

The injured driver was transported to Serian Hospital by emergency medical responders, while the two other passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were handed over to an ambulance team for further treatment.

After completing rescue operations and clearing debris from the accident scene, the team returned to the station at 5.23am. — DayakDaily
