KUCHING, Feb 26: A driver was pinned and a passenger suffered minor injuries after their 25-tonne lorry fell into a cliff along Jalan Sampadi 4, in Lundu, today.

According to Lundu fire station in a statement, after being informed by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre regarding the incident at 9.41am, a team of eight fire fighters led by PBK I Jaree Mohamad was rushed to the location.

“Operation commander arriving at the location confirmed that the incident involved a 25- tonne lorry laden with 500 bags of fertiliser had fallen into a roadside cliff and turned turtle.

“One of the victims was thrown outside from the lorry’s cabin during the incident and suffered minor injuries, while the driver was pinned to the driver’s seat,” it said.

The statement noted, the first victim here brought to Lundu Hospital for medical treatment using Bomba Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and firefighters then requested for assistance from the nearby plantation workers to utilise their excavator to rescue the pinned driver.

“Due to the soft condition of the soils, the excavator was used to lift up the lorry cabin, to enable firefighters to cut the cabin’s door and the driver seat in efforts to rescue the driver.

“After successfully extracting the driver out of the lorry’s cabin, the victim was handed over to the medical personnel waiting on the location for treatment,” the statement added. — DayakDaily
