KUCHING, July 18: A Sarawakian dancer’s hard work paid off when he was selected to represent Malaysia at the 26th World Championships of Performing Arts, often cited as the ‘Talent Olympics’ in Anaheim, California of the United States of America (USA).
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, 18-year-old Elwyn Jung expressed his appreciation to his family, friends, and teachers at The Dance Academy Kuching (TDAK).
He also revealed that it is his dream to perform on an international stage.
“I hope I will make Malaysia and Sarawak proud,” said the SMK Kuching High student.
Jung, the third of four siblings, will compete in the dance category and contest in six genres—ethnic/folklore, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, open, and musical theatre.
Describing his preparations for the competition, he said although he trains every day, finding a suitable song proved to be a challenge as he wanted the best piece for the best results.
The international meet is for aspiring performers and entertainers. This year’s edition of the annual competition will take place from July 28 to August 6. — DayakDaily
