KUCHING, Dec 5: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii urges Sarawakian voters to reject the “old-fashioned” politics brought up by Prime Minister Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This follows Ismail Sabri’s comment yesterday that Sarawak will lose out in terms of development without strong bilateral ties between federal and State governments should voters choose not to vote for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) at the upcoming 12th Sarawak Election.

Dr Yii, who is also the candidate for Democratic Action Party (DAP) for the Batu Kawah seat in the State elections added it is the responsibility of the government of the day to bring development to the people regardless of their political inclination.

“Public funds are derived from taxes paid by everyone regardless of who they vote for.

“In the spirit of democracy, no one should be punished for their vote and any government that uses this to undermine the people should be rejected at all cost.

“The voters should be given the choice to evaluate each candidate and party based on their vision, direction and track record,” he said in a press statement today.

He opined that the “Keluarga Malaysia” slogan is mere rhetoric if the federal government is sidelining development for Sarawak.

Dr Yii asserted that Sarawak has been part of the federal government for more than 50 years, yet is still far behind in terms of development compared to other regions in the country.

As such, Dr Yii said the future of Sarawak should be decided by Sarawakians themselves and not by Barisan Nasional (BN) and GPS. — DayakDaily
