MIRI, Oct 12: As the 12th state election looms, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) already has a shortlist of potential candidates for one of the seats it traditionally contests — Pujut.
This was revealed by party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian here today.
Dr Sim, who is also Local Government and Housing Minister, however, kept mum on the names listed.
He disclosed that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component party constantly reviews the list (for Pujut seat, and 19 other seats) and monitors the current political situation.
The 20 state seats which SUPP traditionally contests are Opar, Padungan, Pending, Batu Lintang, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kitang, Batu Kawah, Mambong, Simanggang, Engkilili, Repok, Meradong, Bukit Assek, Dudong, Bawang Assan, Pelawan, Tanjung Batu, Piasau, Pujut and Senadin.
“Tomorrow (Oct 13) PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is going to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and we are constantly monitoring the situation, looking at whether a parliamentary election comes together or not with the state election.
“With all the uncertainty, we (SUPP) must have different strategies to wrest back our traditional seats,” he said when met after launching the Smart Parking Borneo App here.
Dr Sim was also asked whether this coming state election will be SUPP’s hardest as it is likely to face Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) led by its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.
“Every election is difficult. People always say election is easy, (but) don’t undermine voters…never take things for granted,” he replied. — DayakDaily
