KUCHING, Aug 14: People should be on highest alert and focused on safety precautions to reduce chances of being infected or spreading the virus as Covid-19 variants, especially the highly transmissible Delta variant, have spread to parts of Sarawak and driving an uptick in cases.

Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian has again reminded the people to play their part as responsible persons when it comes to standard operating procedures (SOP).

“Please be extra careful with whatever you are doing or wherever you may go.

“Do not forget to practice the 3W – wash, wear and warn. Keep reminding each other to wash hands with soap or use hand sanitisers frequently, keep a distance from others, avoid social gatherings or crowded areas and handshakes.

“Stay home as much as possible unless there are urgent matters to attend to. These are the very least we can do to help our frontliners and to flatten the curve of the pandemic that is still affecting people to this day,” he said.

Dr Sim highlighted this today when witnessing the presentation of certificate of appreciation from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to H&L Retail Sdn Bhd in a brief ceremony at Kenyalang Market here.

Meanwhile MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng thanked H&L Retail Sdn Bhd for stepping up in sponsoring roller blinds to be installed at Kenyalang Market as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“I would like to thank them for such generosity and kind act for sponsoring the roller blinds and previously for food aid.

“The Council appreciates such a kind act they have shown to the Kuching South community all these while, more so during this pandemic time,” he said in a statement.

Wee also expressed appreciation to SUPP Youth Central secretary-general Milton Foo for taking the time to look for the sponsorship and making this request on behalf of the hawkers.

“Thank you also to councillors Goh Tze Hui and Kho Teck Wan for bringing this request to the Council’s attention,” he added.— DayakDaily
