KUCHING, Oct 27: Sarawak Health Department will look into improving Batu Kawa Maternal and Child Health Clinic services by bettering the medical care environment, says Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to Dr Sim, who is the Deputy Premier and Batu Kawah assemblyman, he is aware of the concerns regarding facilities and equipment at the clinic.

In a statement today, he revealed that the Sarawak Health Department will plan and discuss how to create a better medical care environment for the clinic, and—if it needs to be rebuilt which will then require time for construction—how to support the women and children receiving medical care at the clinic.

Dr Sim said this during the handing over ceremony for medical and clinic facilities and equipment to Batu Kawa Maternal and Child Health Clinic, today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, noted healthcare falls under federal jurisdiction.

He said that is why Sarawak must take back its health autonomy to ensure that all medical facilities in the State are in proper condition for the benefit of the people.

“The Sarawak government has also drafted the Health White Paper, which is an important step in efforts to regaining health autonomy.

“Sarawak expressed this intention to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin when he visited Sarawak earlier,” he added.

Dr Sim pointed out that Sarawak has a vast geographical area and despite its relatively small population, all areas, especially rural areas, need to have well-developed medical facilities.

“The Sarawak government is concerned about the medical care of the people, and that is why Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) needs to have strong Parliamentary representatives to speak and fight for the development that we deserve, and to ensure the standard of medical facilities and services in Sarawak can meet the requirements of Sarawakians,” he said. — DayakDaily
