KUCHING, April 22: The second Covid-19 booster rollout is necessary to prevent a surge of cases following Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak, said Deputy Premier Dato Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said it is necessary to strengthen the body’s immune system following the administration of the first booster dose in October last year.

“Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak are coming soon, so this is one of the proactive measures that the State government is taking to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases,” he told reporters after launching the Earth Day programme held at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) today.

Dr Sim noted that apart from rolling out the second booster dose, the Sarawak government is also procuring antiviral pills to treat Covid-19.

On April 20, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that Sarawak would begin administering the second booster shot to individuals aged 60 and above with high-risk comorbidities and immunocompromised children aged 12 and above today (April 22). — DayakDaily
