KUCHING, April 21: The title of ‘Premier of Sarawak’ is equivalent to the ‘Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia’ in federal protocols.
According to Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, this follows the instruction by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim through the federal cabinet and subsequent circulars from the Chief Secretary to all federal civil service.
“Premier of Sarawak no longer seated after, at best, or behind, at worst, any of the federal ministers in any of the official federal functions,” he said in statement today.
He said the changes also reflect Sarawak’s status in Malaysia since the change of title from ‘Chief Minister of Sarawak’ to ‘Premier of Sarawak’ after the Sarawak constitution amendment in February 2022 which many had missed.
“It’s time for every Sarawakian to support this subtle but significant change,” he added. — DayakDaily
