KUCHING, Aug 10: There have been no deaths due to Covid-19 reported in Sarawak involving fully vaccinated individuals, says Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Citing statistics from the Health Ministry (KKM), he said 94.6 per cent or 429 casualties from a total of 449 Covid-19 fatalities reported as of August 8 were those who had not been vaccinated.

He added 4.7 per cent or 21 cases comprised those who received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine while three deaths or 0.7 per cent have received both doses before they were found positive within 14 days from the date of their last dose.

“Sarawak did not record any deaths due to Covid-19 among individuals who have completed their Covid-19 immunisation (at least 14 days after receiving the complete doses),” he said in a Telegram message today.

He added Sarawak has achieved high Covid-19 immunisation coverage among the adult population with 88.2 per cent getting their first dose and 75.9 per cent completing their second dose.

Dr Sim who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing said the number of hospitalisations, admissions into Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and Covid-19 fatalities have subsequently decreased after the State had achieved a high percentage of its adult population being vaccinated against Covid-19. — DayakDaily
