KUCHING, Sept 13: The new Covid-19 Accident and Emergency field hospital at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) will allow for better separation between Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, the facility that is located at SGH’s Accident and Emergency Department, is sponsored by Mercy Malaysia.

“It is a much improved facility with bigger capacity with 3 zones, as well as equipped with oxygen support, and can accommodate up to 60 patients, rather than just using the “corridor outside” of the Accident and Emergency block of SGH,” he said in a social media post yesterday (Sept 12).

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Local Government and Housing, gave assurance that the Sarawak government will provide the necessary funds for essential and basic medical equipment for the Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) and SGH, if there is a need.

He also conveyed his gratitude to Mercy Malaysia for providing the facilities, as well as to the contractors involved in setting the facility up. – DayakDaily.
