Dr Sim holds virtual meeting with Chinese community leaders, hawkers’ rep to draft economic recovery plan

KUCHING, May 13: Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian held a virtual meeting with Chinese community leaders and a representative from the hawkers’ community to jointly discuss the Covid-19 situation and draft an economic recovery plan.

Dr Sim said the economy and development are vital, thus before the pandemic nears its end while vaccination is being rolled out, Sarawak must be prepared for the current and future economic recovery.

“In face of the severe challenges following this pandemic, industrial, commercial enterprises as well as the livelihoods of the people have been impacted, but they are striving to promote the economy.


“In the video conference, the involved parties were called to put forward their constructive opinions which are important materials for the government to formulate economic development plans and supporting facilities,” he said in a press statement today.

Also in attendance at the virtual meeting were Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations president Dato Richard Wee, Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dato Tan Jit Kee, Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting and hawkers’ representative Tan Choon Yong. — DayakDaily
