Dr Sim: Delta variant found in Kpg Seratau, EMCO needs to be extended

KUCHING, July 30: Delta variant cases have been detected in Kampung Seratau near here which registered 68 new Covid-19 cases as of midnight July 28 from the villagers’ second swab screening.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on the village that was scheduled to end today may need to be extended.


Covid-19 cases have been reported in Kampung Seratau as early as July 14 with eight cases, followed by 39 cases on July 16 and another 145 cases on July 22 among other days, yet a cluster of the village has not been declared by Ministry of Health (MOH).

Of the 362 cases recorded by Kuching Divisional Health Office in the past 24 hours of Wednesday, Dr Sim said in a social media post last night, Kampung Seratau recorded the highest number of infection cases among other localities.

Other locations with three to nine cases included Kampung Senari, Kampung Haji Baki, Kampung Bumbok, Kampung Lintang, Kampung Temedak, Jalan Chawan, Jalan Batu Kawa, Banjaran Serapi Matang, Kampung Brang Temurang, Kampung Telaga Air, Kampung Bunuk, Lorong Cahaya Damai, Kampung Bintawa Ulu, Kampung Astana Lot, Kampung Bintawa Tengah, Taman Malihah Jaya, Taman Putri, Kem Penrissen, Kampung Kudei Baru, Kampung Siol Kandis, Kampung Goebilt, Batu Kawa Highfield, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Kampung Jaya Bakti, Taman Yen Yen, Jalan Matang and Lorong Teruntum.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing, emphasised 96 of the 362 positive cases were found to have completed their double-dose vaccination.

He also noted 54 individuals had received their first dose, 26 have not been vaccinated, 77 were not eligible for vaccination and the status of another 108 have yet to be determined. — DayakDaily
