Dr Sim: Borneo Cultural Festival biggest draw in Sibu’s calendar of tourism events

KUCHING, July 20: The growth of the ‘Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF)’ is testament to the development of Sibu town, and without a doubt, is the most iconic event and the main highlight in Sibu’s calendar of tourism events, according to Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He stated this in his speech yesterday before declaring open BCF 2022 in a ceremony at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang in Sibu.

“BCF was inaugurated in 2003 after numerous successful debut (sic), namely ‘Pesta Sibu’, ‘Millennium Celebration’, and ‘Borneo Tribal Extravaganza’.

“BCF has huge potential and the ability to be raised into an international cultural event in the future with collaboration from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC,” he said.

Dr Sim pointed out BCF is a cultural celebration to foster respect and open-mindedness among different ethnic groups.

He said the festival is an ideal platform to instil appreciation for the beautiful cultures of the different races to create common ground with the ultimate goal of bringing the different ethnic communities together.

Meanwhile, in his welcome speech, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting revealed that the next BCF will be bigger and grander. — DayakDaily
