KUCHING, Aug 26: Giving booster shots to the fully vaccinated will not help control the transmission of the Covid-19 Delta variant, says Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“But what can control the spread of Delta now is to vaccinate those who have not been vaccinated,” he said.

Higher vaccination coverage in the country should be the priority at the moment before booster doses are to be considered.

“No one is safe until everyone is safe,” said Dr Noor Hisham in posts on Twitter today.

For Sarawak which has already achieved full double-dose vaccination for 85.9 per cent of the eligible adult population and 62.3 per cent of total population as of Aug 25, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has requested the Sarawak Covid-19 Advisory Group (Scovag) to look into the necessity of booster shots for Sarawakians.

For the time being, the Sarawak government is working to vaccinate the remainder of the State’s population by allowing various vaccination centres (PPVs) and health clinics to take walk-ins. — DayakDaily
