“I accept this appointment with humility, mindful that any contribution I make will stand on the work of many mentors, colleagues, partners, and communities who have walked this journey with me.

“My sincere thanks to the leadership of Hokkaido University for the trust and opportunity to serve,” she said.

She further expressed hope in supporting the progression of science and education by strengthening bridges between researchers, institutions, and the wider public so that knowledge is not only advanced but also shared clearly, responsibly, and with real-world impact.

“I look forward to promoting collaboration, encouraging young talents, and amplifying the values that keep science credible: integrity, curiosity, and service.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported my work over the years. I will do my best to represent this role with diligence and respect,” she said.

Lulie is widely known for her role as the director of the Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (Tropi), as well as being the first Sarawakian to receive the Malaysian Society of Soil Science (MSSS) Research Fellow Award at the International Soil Science Conference (SOILS 2025).

She is recognised for her contributions to soil science, research on tropical peatland ecosystems, and promoting climate change mitigation through science. — DayakDaily
