KUCHING, Sept 13: The famed Bidayuh longhouse of Kampung Anah Rais will be turned into a premier tourist destination, says Deputy Minister of Transport I Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He said efforts were being made to lure more tourists to the longhouse, which already enjoyed many visitors.

“For Kampung Anah Rais, we will look into ways to turn it into a premier tourism product for our traditional village to lure more tourists.

“With that, we will add more to the already existing tourists attractions to the area, where there are already three villages where tourists are coming to enjoy the environment,” Dr Jerip said today at Hari Malaysia Day gathering for Padawan sub-district area at Kampung Rejoi, Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS).

Dubbed the villages above the cloud, Dr Jerip said the villagers of Kampung Sapit, Kampung Simuti and Kampung Kiding were now enjoying the popularity of their respective villages among tourists, enabling them to earn extra income.

“For this reason, it is important for the people in the area to preserve the flora and fauna,” Dr Jerip pointed out.

According to the Mambong assemblyman, tourism was among the ways for the people to generate income, adding that tourists arrival to the State as of July 31 numbered 703,891 visitors, bringing in RM1.64 billion in revenue. ā€” DayakDaily
