SIBU, Oct 18: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Nangka is going all out to ensure that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) wrestles back the Sibu seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Speaking at a press conference after it’s election machinery meeting last night, Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said they had all agreed to work hard like in the last State election, where he won.

“I don’t know who the candidate is for GE15, whether it is from PBB, PDP, SUPP or PRS but it doesn’t matter as long as we can win,” he said.

He said GPS must win this time to avoid it as a traditionally lost seat for it.

“We have lost three times which includes the 2010 by-election, 2013 and 2018 elections. We cannot make it a traditionally lost seat. Enough is enough,” said Dr Annuar who is also the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development I.

He added that his Nangka constituency is an important one for GPS, as during the Dec 18 State election he won by a majority of more than 10,000 votes.

Dr Annuar said the candidate chosen must be able to deliver the seat this time.

“We must pick a candidate who can deliver development especially on local issues. He must be able to solve a lot of Sibu’s problems such as floods and road congestion. We can’t get anything if (we just focus) on national issues as they are mostly emotional issues,” he added.

The said candidate must also be able to attract young voters, he added.

The Nangka constituency has 9,000 new voters with 50 per cent of them aged between 18 to 20.

The rest are those who had previously not registered as voters but are now automatically voters due to the new automatic voter registration with the Undi18 Bill coming into effect.
