SIBU, Jan 15: Sibu Division, which will be under a two-week of Movement Control Order (MCO), can only control the spread of Covid-19 cases if the people strictly abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The State Disaster Management Committee yesterday put Sibu Division, which included the districts of Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau, under MCO from Jan 16 to 29.
“During this two weeks of MCO, if we fully comply with the SOPs, we will be able to reduce the cases,” said Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee in a video message to the public.
He said the reclassification of the division from Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), was the right move due to the sudden spike from the Pasai Cluster.
From 37 positive cases detected on Jan 7 from the cluster, it had snowballed to 408 cases. A 32-year old woman who came back from Johor on Dec 29 was the super spreader.
“From these cases, it shows that the case increase warrants drastic action by the implementation of MCO. 90 per cent of the cases are from the longhouses which are now under lockdown.
“There are other positive cases with the address at the longhouse but they are not staying there,” he said.
Dr Annuar said the high number of cases reported was due to successful tracing of those with close contact with the spreader.
“We will continue to lockdown the Pasai longhouses (eight ) until there are no more new cases,” he said. — DayakDaily
