BETONG, July 2: The 99-year-old Rh Enteri Lengkoi in Spaoh here will be upgraded with a federal allocation of RM2.45 million.
The job scope for the project would include restoration works amounting to RM1.5 million, rewiring (RM750,000), and construction of a high-level water tank and water pipe system (RM200,000).
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who announced the funding said he would also look into two other requests for the longhouse namely, riverbank stabilisation as well as expansion of parking lots.
“For the riverbank erosion, I will have to refer to Mat Sabu (Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu).
“For the parking space, I will ask Minister of Local Government Development (Nga Kor Ming).
“This means all four requests made by the longhouse insya-Allah will be approved,” he said when attending a function at Rh Enteri Lengkoi here today.
Zahid who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) further hoped that the upgrading works could be completed before the longhouse’s 100th anniversary, promising to return to the longhouse in July next year.
