DPM Fadillah: Projects worth RM191mil to address floods in Kuching expected to be completed by 2026

KUCHING, July 21: The RM191 million Sarawak River Integrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB) to address flood issues in certain areas in Kuching is expected to be completed by 2026.

Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said the first package is implemented in the Sungai Kuap river basin to address the flood problem around the Muara Tuang Park, Taman Univista, Unisquare, and Tabuan Dayak areas.

According to him, the second package, which started in May 2024, is implemented at the Sarawak General Hospital, Lintang Park, and the government quarters area.

For the third package, he said the project is worth RM41.96 million and began on May 21.

Overall, the projects are expected to be completed by 2026.

Fadillah said this during a press conference held after the ground-breaking ceremony for PLSB Sarawak River (Package 3) at SK Tan Sri Datuk Haji Mohamed Hall in Matang today.

Fadillah, who is also the MP for Petra Jaya, added that the completion of the projects would benefit about 20,000 residents and protect about 117 hectares in the affected areas from flood.
