KUCHING, Dec 12: The Federal government’s decision to have Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof helm the Energy Transition and Public Utilities ministerial portfolio is a recognition to Sarawak’s leading efforts in new energy industry, says Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

Commenting on the recent Federal cabinet reshuffle as announced by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak described the changes as an ‘upgrade’ for Sarawak.

“Our Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof is heading the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities.

“This is a recognition to Sarawak spearheading (similar) industry especially in renewable energy, carbon trading and green technology as portrayed by our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg). In this field, Sarawak leads,” he said in a statement today.

Snowdan who is the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief further implied that since Fadillah is a Sarawakian Member of Parliament (MP) for Petra Jaya, the latter’s new portfolio in public utilities would address Sarawak’s critical needs in treated water supply and rural electrification.

“This will enhance the progress of Sarawak along with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) agenda which is now also headed by Fadillah.

“Sarawak should capitalise on this and not let it be a forgone opportunity,” he added.

Apart from Fadillah, the new cabinet lineup saw the posts of Sarawak ministers and deputy ministers remain status quo except for Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong who is now appointed as the Deputy Minister of Digital.

Ugak was previously the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Duties. — DayakDaily
