KUCHING, Jan 19: Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof has proposed to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg the establishment of a dedicated institution for renewable energy (RE) in the State.
He highlighted that the Premier’s visionary leadership has propelled Sarawak’s success in RE, achieving a 62 per cent renewable energy capacity mix target by 2024, surpassing the 60 per cent target set in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Fadillah also noted that recent advancements in hydrogen research in Sarawak have attracted interest from international investors, particularly from Japan and South Korea, positioning Sarawak as a potential major hydrogen economy hub in Asia.
As the Federal Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Fadillah admitted that he frequently seeks the Premier’s guidance on renewable energy matters, further emphasising the Premier’s critical role in advancing Sarawak’s RE ambitions.
“Thus, I would like to propose that our Honourable Premier consider establishing a dedicated institution for renewable energy in Sarawak.
“This would allow renewable energy to become a part of our social culture, benefitting future generations of Sarawak,” he said during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Branch Delegates Meeting for the Sarawak Southern Zone at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
At the event, Fadillah, who is also the senior vice president of PBB, reiterated that all leaders of the 26 party branches in the Southern Zone are united in their determination and strengthened in their consensus to continue supporting the leadership of Abang Johari.
“We, the members of PBB in the Southern Zone, unanimously approve the resolution that the positions of party president and deputy party president remain unchanged and not contested.
“In any situation, regardless of the challenges and obstacles we may face, we pledge to remain unwavering and continue to stand firmly with the party president,” Fadillah added. — DayakDaily
