KUCHING, Aug 3: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has placed emphasis on the need for a mutual agreement on a framework for good governance between the government and the Opposition before any decisions are made regarding the allocation of funds to Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs).

Speaking to reporters after launching the ‘Majlis Pelancaran Bulan Kebangsaan dan Kibar Jalur Gemilang Peringkat Sarawak 2024’ held today at CIDB Convention Centre Sarawak in Petra Jaya here, Fadillah emphasised the importance of establishing a mutual understanding before delving into the specifics.

“We need to agree on the framework first. It’s crucial to define the context in which we can cooperate to ensure good governance, national unity, and integration,” he said.

He further mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is in place, awaiting the Opposition’s review and response.

“We have already prepared the MoU and I have requested my colleague to hand it over to Perikatan Nasional chief whip Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

“If it hasn’t been delivered yet, I will ensure it is done by next week at the latest.

“We anticipate their response and, if necessary, we will arrange meetings between government and Opposition representatives to discuss the proposals,” he added.

The initial framework includes guidelines on collaboration to build a stronger Malaysia, emphasising the do’s and don’ts of the partnership.

On July 9, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reportedly stated that resolving the allocation issue for Opposition MPs should be straightforward and uncomplicated.

He highlighted that the requirements for any opposition member seeking allocations are clear and fall within the standard negotiation and democratic process. — DayakDaily
