KUCHING, Feb 20: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof says the Federal government fully supports Sarawak’s aspirations in advancing its energy transition goals, particularly in expanding its renewable energy (RE) capacity to position the State to becoming a regional hydrogen production hub.
According to a news report by TVS, Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), said the Federal government is supportive of Sarawak’s ambition to increase its RE capacity to 15 gigawatts (GW) by 2035.
He emphasised that the Federal government and his ministry continue to integrate Sarawak’s energy transition aspirations and initiatives into national planning.
“This specifically includes the planning of renewable energy supply and generation within the national roadmap. Additionally, we are ready to collaborate and share knowledge and expertise on RE development with regulatory agencies and stakeholders in Sarawak,” he was quoted as saying during a verbal question-and-answer session in Parliament at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a query from Rodiyah Sapiee (Gabungan Parti Sarawak – Batang Sadong) regarding the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Sarawak’s ambition of becoming a renewable energy hub in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, regarding the implementation of solar power installations for homes in Sarawak, Fadillah clarified that such initiatives are currently limited to Peninsular Malaysia, due to differing legislations.
However, he suggested that Sarawak government collaborate with relevant agencies to explore the possibility of implementing similar initiatives in the region. – DayakDaily
