KUCHING, Dec 5: Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is carrying out a focused investigation on the explosion which took place in CityOne Megamall yesterday which claimed three lives, to determine the level of compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
DOSH Sarawak director Dr Nor Halim Hasan emphasised that the investigation would focus on compliance to regulations stipulated under Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, Factories and Machinery Act 1967 as well as other compliance regulations.
“We are also waiting for the forensic team from Putrajaya, comprising three officers specialising in oil and gas incidents, who will be arriving later today,” he told a press conference at CityOne Megamall today.
“Our enforcement officers are also conducting an on-site inspection before tallying our findings with that of the forensics team.”
As safety concerns still exist, the area will remain restricted until deemed safe after the authorities complete their investigations. CityOne Megamall will remain closed until further notice. — DayakDaily
