KUCHING, March 1: Ramadan bazaar traders have been advised to avoid starting their operations too early and to comply with established regulations to preserve the peaceful atmosphere of the holy month.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications of Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this and noted that most stalls at the Ramadan Bazaar typically begin preparations around noon and start selling food at 2pm or 3pm.

According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), he said that although no strict action will be taken, authorities will engage with the traders who start selling too early to seek explanations and provide guidance.

“If they sell too early, we will look into their reasons and advise them to adhere to the established regulations.

“We will discuss with them to ensure that all parties adhere to the existing guidelines,” he told reporters after the launching ceremony of the Rural Water Supply Project in Kampung Nyabut and Kampung Trombol today.

Although there are no official operating hours set for food sales at the Ramadan Bazaar, Dr Abdul Rahman stressed the importance of traders starting their sales in the afternoon to reduce potential social issues, especially for Muslims who are fasting. – DayakDaily
