KUCHING, March 19: Don’t sit on the job when you can’t even deliver to the people, says Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) leaders.

He said this following the discovery by one of his assistants that over 500 Kenyalang Gold Cards (KGCs) for applicants in Stampin area have not been distributed for over several months now.

“What happened was that a few weeks ago, one of my assistants went to the Kebajikan (Welfare Department) to help out with some applications from the people for the welfare assistance fund.

“Then, he was approached by the welfare officers that there are a few hundred KGCs that are supposed to be distributed by SUPP but it has been there for several months coming to a year and they are still not done with the distribution,” he said.

The assistant was then requested to help with the distribution and handed with more than 500 cards where some of them have been delivered to the people by DAP these past weeks.

Chong, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman cum Stampin MP, asserted that it is the government’s responsibility to collect and distribute the cards to the applicants but the task was not fulfilled.

He also highlighted aside from Stampin area, he was made understood by the welfare officers that there are many other areas where a lot more of the KGCs have not been distributed yet.

With that, he urged for related applicants to contact DAP service centre at 7th Mile to collect their cards seeing that some of the names in the list do not come with contact numbers and other details.

“Those coloured in the list have gotten their cards personally from us, and for those not coloured, they can come to us or we will go to them.

“They can also call our service centre at 7th Mile because most of these applicants are in Kota Sentosa and Stampin area.

“This list will be uploaded to our Sarawak DAP Facebook or website later,” he told reporters during a press conference at Sarawak DAP headquarters here today.

Present at the press conference were also Chong’s special assistant Michael Kong and Pending assemblyman Violet Yong. — DayakDaily
