Don’t miss the chance to pick the brains of cancer specialists tomorrow

KUCHING, May 23: CanHOPE Kuching is organising a free cancer awareness talk tomorrow (May 24), and tickets are available at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) headquarters, here.

According to the SUPP Central Women secretariat, the public can pick up the free ticket between 8am and 5pm on the day of the event. The tickets are also available at Sape Hall, Level 11, at Citadines Apart’Hotel from 6pm onwards.

SUPP Central Women is partnering with CanHOPE Kuching to jointly organise the talk titled ‘Knowledge and Hope, Let’s Fight Cancer Together’ that will run from 6pm-9pm.


The talk, sponsored by Parkway Cancer Centre and Parkway Hospitals Singapore, will feature speakers such as its Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr Richard Quek Hong Hui.

“In addition to general medical oncology, Dr Quek has a special interest in the management of sarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST), melanomas and lymphomas.

“He will share with the public on the topic ‘The Modern Day Cancer Journey: Prevention, Diagnosis & Treatment’,” the SUPP Women secretariat said in a statement today.

Another speaker, Dr Winston Woon — a general surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, is proficient in all aspects of general surgery and endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). His main interest lies in laparoscopic/robotic.

His areas of expertise include hernia, gall bladder, liver, pancreas and bile duct surgery. Dr Woon will talk about ‘Keyhole surgery is a way to go’.

The event will have a question-and-answer session and will end with a lucky draw.
