KUCHING, April 12: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has proposed a special economic forum to discuss the potential and future economic development of Sri Aman.
According to TVS, he said the forum should bring together intellectuals, successful individuals originally from Sri Aman, and experts from various fields to explore new economic opportunities arising from the State government’s investment in infrastructure development.
“We must not just be observers. If we are still not ready to think about change, then that is a missed opportunity. I have already begun providing basic infrastructure such as roads and bridges,” he said at the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri organised by Anak Perantau Simanggang (APS) at Dewan Hikmah here today.
At the same time, the Premier also called on Sri Aman natives living outside the region to return and contribute their ideas and expertise to help drive the area’s economic transformation.
The Sarawak government is currently implementing a range of major infrastructure projects, including the coastal road network, Batang Lupar Bridges 1 and 2, a dual carriageway from Samarahan to Sri Aman, and the development of a landmark waterfront, which is set to become the longest in Sarawak.
He added that this infrastructure development will not only strengthen connectivity between coastal and inland areas but also create greater opportunities for the people to develop their land through modern agriculture and other economic activities.
“I am confident we can organise a dedicated economic forum for Sri Aman, focusing on its role in the new economic era. I leave it to the people of Simanggang. There are many intellectuals there, and I believe they can help shape our future,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of holding this economic forum to ensure that development planning aligns with the area’s potential, particularly in the agriculture and tourism sectors. — DayakDaily
