KUCHING, Oct 2: DayakDaily has launched another children’s book collection drive in collaboration with Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), where a collection box has been placed on the ground floor of our office at TT3 Plaza, next to HWC Coffee and Subway, off Jalan Canna.
The book donation drive is an initiative which is part of Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT) 2024. Members of the public may drop off books until Oct 13 at two additional locations namely the Book Corner@Food Haven of The Hills Shopping Mall Kuching and the Pikabol complex in Pending (Oct 10–13 only).
In a media release, BESarawak encourages BPIT 2024 players and spectators to donate new or gently used children’s books suitable for readers aged 12 and under.
The goal is to collect 2,000 books throughout the tournament, which will be delivered to rural schools in Sarawak as part of BESarawak’s Books Build Legacy initiative.
This donation effort supports the tournament’s social impact initiatives and underscores the commitment to strengthening the community through sports.
In a show of support, the Kuching-based pickleball team ‘Croc Can Dinks’ has already donated 300 children’s books to the drive.
Additionally, three local organisations have joined forces to support ‘Croc Can Dinks’ in the upcoming BPIT 2024.
BESarawak proudly backs their participation in the Team Event category as part of its community outreach efforts, while Hon Ang Restaurant and Tat Ee Marketing sponsor the team’s official jerseys.
These sponsorships highlight the unity between local brands and the community, creating opportunities for local athletes to compete in an international sports event.
BPIT 2024 will take place at PIKABOL from Oct 10 to 13, with 500 players from across Southeast Asia registered to compete. The four-day event is expected to attract a crowd of 2,000 spectators.
Meanwhile, DayakDaily has previously collaborated with BESarawak under the Books Build Legacy initiative on several occasions.
During the D’Drift trip in March this year, DayakDaily transported 1,340 secondhand books and three boxes of soft toys to the community library known as the ‘Reading Corner’ at Long Latei Penan Service Centre in Ulu Baram.
In August 2023, the organisation donated 1,000 storybooks and two large bags of soft toys to the Orang Ulu community in Ulu Belaga.
In 2022, DayakDaily launched its inaugural secondhand book collection campaign, successfully delivering over 1,000 books to SK Lusong Laku for Penan children. — DayakDaily
