KUCHING, April 5: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak Branch has announced that 18 food items will be listed under the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Hari Raya Aidilfitri effective today until April 19.

In a statement today, its director, Mathew Dominic Barin, said the 18 items are yellow onion, imported red onion, Chinese garlic, dried chill, red chilli, imported beef, imported old ginger, long bean, groundnut, whole coconut (wholesale only), grated coconut (retail only), imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing), green mustard, cucumber, tomato, Chinese potato, and puffed fish (including mabung and selayang fish).

“The Hari Raya SHMMP 2024 will be enforced through the Price Control and Anti-profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.

“The maximum price that has been set at the wholesale and retail levels can be checked through the ministry’s website,” he said.

He also stated that KPDN Sarawak has mobilised 189 enforcement officers and 97 price monitoring officers in strategic locations throughout the State to monitor the presence of supply and compliance as well as inspections in public markets, wet markets, and supermarkets.

“Monitoring is carried out to detect non-compliance or investigate consumer complaints so that any non-compliance by traders can be acted upon by the established legislation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mathew said that Sarawak KPDN Enforcement Officers have carried out inspections on 24,076 premises from Jan 1, 2024, until Apr 4, 2024, resulting in 288 cases with a compound value of RM 40,900 with an estimated seizure value of RM13,648,380.55. — DayakDaily
