MIRI, July 11: Miri City Caring Society is seeking the help of the public to locate the next-of-kin of the late Ani, aged 17, for burial or cremation arrangements.
The deceased had passed away at the Immigration Department detention depot in Bekenu on June 8 this year after she was sent there following a police report that she was an illegal immigrant.
Her body has yet to be claimed as of July 10.
Her last known address was not immediately known as she was admitted to Miri Hospital after being found unwell by passing members of the public and later sent to the detention centre on May 29.
Miri City Caring Society is urgently appealing to Ani’s next-of-kin or anyone who knows of their whereabouts to contact the society or Miri Hospital.
According to records, the deceased identified herself as an Indonesian Christian from West Kalimantan (Kalbar).
However, the Indonesian Consulate office in Sarawak said it was unable to identify her as an Indonesian national based on the information given and the Indonesian biometric matching system. It had despatched its officers to Miri to investigate on June 10.
MCCS will proceed to assist Miri Hospital to arrange for the release of her body for cremation if no next-of-kin can be traced by July 16 this year.
The society is appealing to family members of the late Ani or anyone who know of their whereabouts to immediately contact the society’s representative Philip Kiew at 019-8847726 for further arrangement. — DayakDaily
