KUCHING, Aug 30: A customer’s dissatisfaction over a durian purchase led to a destructive act as he used his luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) to ram into a shop’s roller shutter, causing damages amounting to RM5,000.
Chiew Tze Wei, 34, was fined RM3,000 or in default to three months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
Chiew was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief. The section provides for imprisonment between one and five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
According to the charge, Chiew was accused of intentionally damaging the property of a 24-year-old victim by using his SUV to crash through the shop’s roller shutter. The shop located at Kempas Heights specialised in selling fresh and wet goods.
The incident occurred around 5.30am on August 11.
A police report was filed by the complainant, prompting further investigation. This led to the apprehension of the accused on Aug 25 near a supermarket along Jalan Tun Jugah.
During the investigation, Chiew admitted to crashing into the victim’s shopfront twice, as captured by the store’s CCTV.
The motive behind this incident seems to have stemmed from Chiew’s dissatisfaction with the durian he had purchased from the victim’s shop, as it did not meet his desire.
