KUCHING, Aug 16: The Betong and Sri Aman disaster management committee is appealing to National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for assistance to fight peat fires in the two districts.

“We are requesting for Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) through NADMA to conduct water bombing in the two divisions.”

“We have issued a notice to NADMA to help our firefighters from the Fire and Rescue department,” said Sarawak disaster management committee (JPBN) secretariat Major Ismail Mahedin.

He said the forest fires occurring in Kampung Tuie, Betong and Sri Aman areas are still extensive and have been aggravated by the hot weather and lack of water from the existing reservoir.

“Therefore we seek assistance from the Sarawak JPBN to assist in conducting forest firefighting operations,” said Ismail. — DayakDaily
