KUCHING, June 24:Â Disappointed with the politicking to bring down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has called on all to give the unity government a chance.
To Nanta, six months is still not enough for Anwar to bring about substantial change to the country.
“I hate to say that, but this is a fact. Our friends in Peninsular Malaysia, they can’t help it. I am not blaming them but unfortunately, there is still too much politicking over there, so it is very hard for any leader including our prime minister to concentrate on thinking what would be the best policy to recover our economy.
“Six months is not (a long) enough time to do something substantial, and also there is too much politicking, trying to pull him down, or trying to pull his government down.
“So what I am saying is, let us give this government a chance. Of course, in saying that, I cannot deny the rights of other people in politics. They have their own ideas, yes, they are entitled to that, I am not arguing against that, but as I have said, let us all come to our senses.Â
“Give this government a chance, (if it is not good), chuck them out in four years’ time, and then, whoever is better will be elected by the people,” he said at the 60th Anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence Celebration held in Kapit last night following the arrival of the Celebration Convoy which comprises of more than 1,000 vehicles and over 2,000 participants, who have traversed across 60 districts and 12 divisions.
The Kapit MP said GPS is not part of Pakatan Harapan before the election, but has been willing to support Anwar’s government because the Sarawak ruling coalition believes in ensuring the political stability of the country.
“GPS wants political stability for Malaysia as (it is) good for Malaysia, good for Sarawak especially because we have an affirmative, proactive and good economic development agenda. We want to see that being followed through in a conducive environment,” said Nanta. — DayakDaily
