KUCHING, June 25: Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar today said that no Bills have been submitted so far for the upcoming Special Sitting on July 7. However, he did not rule out the possibility that the redelineation of State and Parliamentary constituencies could be tabled.
“Whether the number of seats will increase or decrease, I am unable to say at this point because I have yet to receive any Bills. Therefore, I cannot comment further,” he said, according to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), during a press conference after officiating the First Series of the Third Term of the Student Parliament Programme, today.
He added that the matter cannot be confirmed until official documents are submitted, but he did not rule out the possibility.
Asfia further informed that the Special Sitting will be held following a notice issued under Standing Order 8(3), after receiving an official request from Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“In response to the request, I have issued notices to all 82 Assemblymen to attend the Special Sitting scheduled for 7 July 2025.
“However, as of now, I have not received any related Bills, and any further comments at this stage would be purely speculative,” he said.
Asfia also noted that a pre-council meeting and press conference will be held as soon as any Bills are received, to provide further explanation on the purpose of the Special Sitting. – DayakDaily
