KUCHING, May 5: Developers should follow the steps of Sarawak Metro to consult with Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) prior to implementing projects, says chairman Dato Peter Minos.
He said Sarawak Metro had met and sought advice on many aspects from MPKS before they commenced works on the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project in Kota Samarahan.
“When Sarawak Metro started work at Rembus, they called MPKS asking about any possible flooding and other things about Rembus.
“That is a wise thing to do because, as a local authority, we ought to know the history and peculiarities of any area in our municipality,” he said in a statement today.
Minos also expressed his gratitude to Sarawak Metro for acknowledging MPKS by extending an invitation to the latter to ART’s launching ceremony.
Citing a housing project as an example, Minos said developers should talk to MPKS on issues of flooding, possible internal road congestion, drainage systems, and so on.
He said there is no point turning to MPKS when flooding adversely affects house buyers later on when projects are completed, which causes house buyers to get disappointed and angry.
“Some companies are not even aware that they must get a permit for early commencement from MPKS under the Buildings Ordinance.
“A breach means a heavy fine by MPKS. Playing ignorance or innocence of the law does not work and of no defence,” he explained. — DayakDaily
