MIRI, Jan 17: Native customary rights (NCR) landowners have been being reminded not to sell their land once they are given the land titles.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan advised landowners to develop the land.
“Please, do not sell the land. It should be developed, put to good use,” he told 204 landowners from Bakam, Lambir and Bakong areas who received their land titles under Section 6 and Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code here today.
Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat and Miri Land and Survey chief Hardi Fadillah Hamzah were present.
Awang Tengah said the Sarawak government has always recognised the people’s right to their NCR land.
He advised the people not to simply believe baseless accusations made by oppositions, saying the state government under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was grabbing peoples’ land using Section 6.
“Nonsense, there’s no reason for the government to simply grab people’s land,” he said, while adding that landowners would be given fair compensation in the case of land acquisition for infrastructure development.
Awang Tengah added that GPS-led state government has always been sincere in helping the people. The opposition would resort to strategies to scar the image of the government every time an election is around the corner, he continued. — DayakDaily
