KUCHING, May 30: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Malaysian Institute of Architects Sarawak Chapter (PAMSC) are organising a design competition that is open to all Sarawakians to introduce public art in Kuching City South by injecting creative, innovative, and sustainable design of sculpture or installation using the city’s icon, ‘CAT’.

According to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the competition is organised in accordance with the council’s vision of promoting Kuching City South as a Garden City.

“The submitted entries will be evaluated in order of merit based on design excellence, buildability, practicality, and innovative and sustainable design,” Wee said today at the ‘PAMSC-MBKS CAT Design Competition 2022’ press conference held in the MBKS committee room here.

The first, second, and third prize winners will receive a cash prize of RM3,000, RM1,500, and RM1,000, respectively, while the five shortlisted entries will receive RM500 each. All will also bring home a certificate.

Participation is free, but registration is required; only registered participants may submit queries and entries to the Competition Secretariat. Each participant may submit more than one entry, subject to separate registration for each submission.

“Registration begins on June 1 (Wednesday) and ends on June 27 (Monday), with the final submission deadline on Friday (July 15).

“The fruition of the CAT sculpture and installation in Kuching South areas will definitely enhance the landscape and hardscape of the Kuching City South and bring the community together,” said the mayor.
