KUCHING, June 11: For the longest time, Sarawak has always been known as the ‘Land of the Hornbills’, while Sabah holds the moniker of ‘Land Below the Wind’.
However, there are still some Malaysians—especially those from Peninsular Malaysia—who tend to mix the two up.
In a Facebook post today, Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian expressed his shock when he came across an article from the June edition of Malaysia Airlines’ inflight travel magazine, Going Places, which inaccurately called Sarawak the ‘Land Below the Wind’.
He also uploaded an image of the article, which carried the headline ‘Escape to Sarawak’ and sub-headline ‘Four hotels to book on your next trip to the Land Below the Wind’.
He added it was hard to note that West Malaysians can still make such mistakes, especially when it comes from a national airline.
“It is hard to be ‘segulai sejalai’ while Sarawakians are expected to know West Malaysia, but West Malaysians are still making mistakes on some of the most basic ideas of Sarawak,” he stated in his post.
