SPAOH, Dec 7: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas hopes that the RM36 million Sungai Paku Bridge project will be completed by August next year—two months ahead of the original target in October.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, the project, which was previously classified as ‘sick’ before being picked up by a rescue contractor, is currently at 44 per cent completion.
He said that he had requested that the Public Works Department (JKR) rearrange the work schedule.
“I requested this because the project has long started but the first contractor failed to complete it until it became ‘sick’, prompting us to appoint a rescue contractor.
“We are monitoring this project and feel sad because the people in Spaoh have been waiting for this bridge.
“It is a short bridge, there is no reason why it couldn’t be built according to schedule,” he said when monitoring projects being implemented in his constituency recently.
Uggah who is the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, also monitored the road upgrading project of the junction to SK Paku Central which cost RM500,000.
He said the project is under JKR and expressed confidence it will be completed in a month.
For the paddy planting programme at Tanjung Sebekut, Uggah said he will request for water and electricity supply to be connected to the area to help the smallholder farmers there.
He added he will request Sarawak Energy and the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) for an estimated cost which will be put under consideration through funds from the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA). — DayakDaily
