KUCHING, Sept 10: Sarawak’s Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian stresses that there is a big difference between proclaiming Johor played an important role in the formation of Malaysia and that of Malaya.
He noted that Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, in an exclusive interview with a Chinese daily last month, has proclaimed: “Without Johor, there would be no Malaysia today!”
However, Dr Sim opined that the statement should be corrected to apply to the Federation of Malaya alone when it comes to Johor’s role.
“Without Johor, there is only no Malaya. Without Sarawak, there is no Malaysia. That is a big difference,” he said during the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central Solidarity Camp 2023 dinner held at Borneo Happy Farm here last night (Sept 9).
He also recalled when the former finance minister Lim Guan Eng, in 2019, claimed that Sarawak would become bankrupt in three years if it continued to be ruled by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“Now, our revenue for the year 2022 has almost reached RM12 billion. The State’s revenue is expected to reach a higher total this year.
“Thus, do you still think we will go bankrupt? (It is possible) that side (Malaya) would be bankrupt instead,” he added. — DayakDaily
