Deputy Premier marks Deepavali with open house visits, fostering cultural harmony in Sarawak

KUCHING, Oct 31: Celebrating various festivals, including Deepavali, is a cornerstone of Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah and his wife Dato Doreen Mayang, attended a vibrant Diwali luncheon hosted by Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Association Kuching president Dato Shankar Ram at an eatery, The King’s Curry, today.

This lively event showcased the colourful traditions and culinary delights associated with the festival.

Following the luncheon, the couple was warmly welcomed to a Diwali open house at the residence of Sarawak Sikh Temple Association president Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter, further highlighting the spirit of the festival.

“It is essential that we uphold the unity and diversity that defines Sarawak,” Uggah emphasised in a media release.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development noted that the tradition of open houses and visiting one another during the festive season provides a opportunity to strengthen friendships and foster community bonds.

Uggah underscored that such gatherings play a crucial role in enhancing connections among people of different religions, races, and cultures, reiterating the importance of inclusivity within the community.
