KUCHING, Feb 11: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas applauds Sarawak Premier-cum-Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who he described as “the way forward”, bringing a brighter future to Sarawak.
He said GPS’ success in the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12) in 2021 and the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022 is the result of Abang Johari’s leadership.
“In the GE15, GPS won 23 of the 31 seats contested. We also captured seats such as Lubok Antu, Sarikei, Selangau, and Puncak Borneo. In PRN12, GPS won 76 of the 82 seats contested.
“Well done. Our victory is the result of our struggles, strong party loyalty, and comradeships,” he said.
Uggah made these remarks in conjunction with GPS’ GE15 appreciation night held tonight.
He also pointed out that the people have given GPS their support because they want a strong and fair government that is people- and development-friendly.
“Our people have also seen that the premier’s governance has generated new income for Sarawak,” he said.
Uggah noted that GPS is now part of the unity government, with Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof appointed as one of the deputy prime ministers.
“For us, this is an appreciation that is infinite because never before has a leader from Sabah or Sarawak been given the trust to hold a position this high (in the federal government),” he said.
Uggah commended the efforts of all those who have contributed to GPS’ success in GE15 and hoped that the same support would continue in future elections. — DayakDaily
